Beaching it

Of course today dawned somewhat warmer and sunnier than yesterday when we were horseback riding!!! We were quite loathe to leave Brigitte’s. I kept th fire going on all night and smoke has a sweet smell.

Brigitte gave me directions for a walk. When I turned left on the dyke, it said “intersite,” which I knew mean no access but she told me to go that way!! I decided if I was challenged inwould just say no français! I didnot see the black bulls, but I picked up some birds on my Merlin app. The sunshine was awesome, and the Doberman and basset hound barked at me just like yesterday.

I made a breakfast salad out of my leftover lettuce, my vinagagrette made with pesto (yummy!), and the can of sardines I didn’t eat the night before. Don’t judge until you’ve tried it. I also implemented operation toast the days old croissant. I cut it in half and put it in the toaster. with some Butter and jam—yes!!

Reluctantly we packed up and left. Amy wasn’t feeling too great—I think there was a bad mussel on that bushel. We agreed not to speak of them again. I wanted to go to the bird sanctuary but it wasn’t open yet, so we drove back to St Maries de la mer. We stopped at an overlook and walked a bit and got some photos of some swans and flamingos. And a poor horse who had barely any dry ground and was chest deep In water

When we pulled into town , there was a little

market, so we checked out the wares. I got a cool vest. Then we went down by the beach and sat. Amy wanted to lie down, I left my purse for her to use as a pillow because I wanted to walk down by the dunes.

We were a little hungry now. I had a mix of gelatos—lemon basil, cassis, and strawberry. Amy had a plain waffle. The weather was so pleasant, we really weren’t motivated to leave, but we needed to move on to Nimes.

We found our air BbB fine in Nimes. We had off street parking behind a gate. It was a little stressful getting the car in and making sure the owners dog didn’t get out. Amy was crabby because she still wasn’t feeling well, and she wanted to take a nap.

I set off for the Roman arena which was 12

minute walk, but I managed to screw it up. When I arrived at the arena, I paid 11€ for a ticket to go inside. When I was here on the college trip, I remember sitting in the blazing sun and being told about the arena in French. I didn’t remember anything about it honestly. I did listen to some

of the free audio clips. But mostly, I just wanted to climb around and sit in the sun and let it sink in just how old this place is

Next up, I was on the hunt for a new suitcase. I brought two to give to Amy, because the two she came with were shot. I needed another small one to replace to take home since I had given the small one I brought to her. I tried to explain to the clerk that I didn’t want one that was too expensive but not too cheap. I’m not sure that really was successful, but I did get a suitcase. Amy wasn’t going to want to go to dinner, so I thought I would spend my time reorganizing.

I did want dinner though, but it was 6pm and most places were closed or not serving yet. I went into a bar and the guy pointed to the clock and said, C’est trop tot. I said Je sais, and did not attempt to explain that I’d had no lunch. I just came back to our place, and I would eat whatever we had on hand. That was part of a day old baguette and some canned pate. I still had some

Wine also. Blah. I was in a bad mood and hating on Nimes. I told Amy, I want to leave here first thing in the morning!!

The dog wanted to come in and I fed it some Of the pate. I mean, it looked like dog food. She loved it. I had a quick shower and went to bed early. Around 1:30, I woke up hungry and I remembered I had some trail mix and a juice pack on the car. I ate that and went back to bed still hating on Nimes.
