I had set no alarms and twice I sent away housekeeping trying to explain that I was not feeling well. Finally after 11, I resurrected myself and walked down the street to Amy’s favorite breakfast cafe, L’Adélaïde.

My French is pretty rusty but I managed to get a otable for one and to rder and omelette without ham, a cafe americano, and an orange juice.

Many people here speak English well because it is the official starting point of the Camino although many people start closer to the Spanish border. In the summer this place must be crazy, but in the winter I don’t think they see too many tourists. I still prefer to challenge my brain and not fall back on English unless I must.

Amy and I met up after she was done with school and we walked around town so I could see the two schools where she teaches and stroll through the park where they keep peacocks and swans. We did a little shopping and the window displays were beautiful. One with Barbies in the window was a hair salon showing their ability to style. Amy had much better luck than me in finding things that fit. I suggested a Kelly green top that would go well with her red hair and she

actually liked it!

We had a late afternoon tea break and split an almond muffin. As always, all the bakeries here are amazing. Then we parted ways so I could nap and she had some packing to do for our trip Berlin on Sunday. We were to reconvene at 8 pm for dinner with her teachers.

Luckily that restaurant was right across the street. The teachers were very nice: Marilyn, Benedict, and Caroline. I did my best not to say anything to embarrass Amy and I mostly succeeded. I also brought my itinerary from my last trip to France 40 years ago. They were intrigued with that. And I managed to ask the waiter, in French, to take a photo of us. It was a bit awkward at times but we made it work and I’m glad I got to meet them.
