The ever humbling RVing experience

The RV life is not for those who give up easily or
who struggle with self confidence because just when you think you have the hang of it, a new challenge arises. I thought we my biggest challenges for today would be catching the cats because there are a lot of great niches for hiding.
However, today it was trying to get the trailer jack foot off the stabilizer before hitching up. I’ve had this issue before because I was cranking the jack the wrong way. Today however, if I went low or high, it never got off my block.
I finally went to the office to ask for help, but all the guys had left for HomeDepot and weren’t expected back for an hour and a half. I walked over to shirtless guy with a long trailer rather than ask the prissy looking guy next to me In an Rv pulling a golf cart.
Shirtless was happy to help but not as bright as prissy man who surely had been watching me struggle because he offers up the solution. Immediately. We had to jack up the tongue of the trailer to rest on blocks and then the jack was freed from the block. From there it was quite simple. And they helped me hitch up which was an added bonus. Just goes to show the manly looking guy isn’t always the one who has the answer.
I was happily on my way but the GPS said the road I usually turn on from camp was closed in both directions. But it took left over a one lane bridge and said I could turn in eight tenths of a mile. Not true!!! I saw the construction crew ahead. No place to turn around and no way I’m backing across a one lane bridge. It gave me the heebee jeebies going forward.
I walked down to the crew, and they said the road was NOT closed in the other direction. By
now I was scouting the cornfield on either side of the road to determine where was the flattest place I could turn around. And that is what I did! A wheelie in the cornfield. LOL.
It was still hot but only 87F not 90. Again it was not pleasant to have windows open but it was that or suffocate. Unfortunately the wind was very strong as well while I’m going up and down five and six percent grades. Needless to say, I was going 60 in the 70mph zone and white knuckling with both hands.
I also took a few breaks. As I was pulling off for gas, I heard a screeching sound and I guess that was enough for me to forget which side my tank was on. So, I had to wait for the guy in front of me to fill his work truck and then go get a soda. I finally got around to the correct side and this time the guy in front of me is nowhere in sight. He finally shows up and starts dinking around. Just when I finally think he is leaving, his passenger is limping up to the truck. And he dinks around.
This place was busy. I don’t understand why people don’t have courtesy to move their vehicles when they are done fueling. Plus he could have saved his friend some painful steps.
Anyway, after that I pulled around back with the trucks to listen for the scraping. With all the diesels idling it wasn’t easy to hear. I determined
It only happened when I moved forward. I double checked all my stabilizer feet and one was at an odd angle. I also found that my sewer pipe had not locked properly and it had started to fall out. oops!!! I reset the brake controller too. No more
scraping, so I got on the road again
I thought things would calm down a bit once I got past Morgantown, WV but the traffic was still moderately busy and more road construction. It was Déjà vu being in this area because my oldest went to Alderson-Broadus in Philippi, WV. I told her I didn’t like the school or the lacrosse coach. The campus was in a beautiful location but the college was the only thing the town had going.
Turns out I was right, the coach was not good. Diana quit lacrosse and transfered schools. A-B went bankrupt two years ago right before fall semester. As if they didn’t know, I read the school had posted a $1 profit from the previous year. There was no way it should have been a Division I school but it seems they squandered their money on their sports programs and ignored the real business of college.
And just as I am replaying all of this on my mind, I get a text from said daughter. I definitely believe in energies in the universe!
I made it safely to my camping spot at a county park in West Union, WV. It is also on a river and nestled in the hills. I got the cats situated and had something to eat. I started doing yoga to work out my shoulder kinks. I was enjoying the overcast skies after having full sun on me all day, but then it started to rain. Time for blogging, hand washing some clothes and a much needed shower!
After the rain, I was gifted with a beautiful full rainbow and sunset. That is my pot of gold.
