I’m not driving road trip

Fortunately the F1 tornado did not touch down here last night and while many trees were uprooted and snapped off, there do not seem to be any fatalities. The storm blew out the humidity for the day so while hot, it was no lt unbearable.
My friend Bud asked me if I wanted to go to a nursery to pick up some trees. The owner is going out of business and giving Bud 60% off in addition to his already 10-15% discount. We took a half ton trailer down to the cusp of what we call slower Delaware, although with so many retiring to the beaches, lower Delaware is getting pretty crowded.
Even though some trees were loaded in the back of Bud’s pickup as well as the trailer, we were not able to bring home his entire order. I walked the grounds to look at the plant material because my family owns a garden center in Minnesota. It is always interesting to look at what other businesses carry and what grows in their zone. The yellow leafed host as and the pink and white hydrangeas, for instance would also grow in Minnesota. The crepe Myrtle with heart shaped leaf—no way!
That evening we went to the fireworks at Hagley Museum, which is where the original powder mills and headquarter for the DuPont company was located. Not only were the fireworks well done, but a voice over explained the different kinds and then took on through the history of the DuPonts immigrating to America from France during their revolutionary war times. The founder Eluthere Irene and his dad Pierre narrowly missed being executed during the Reifn of Terror. Pierre tries five other businesses before agreeing to let E.I., who studied with Antoine Lavoisier in France, start a gun power business in the banks of the Brandywine River where the Hagley museum is located.
Obviously they became incredibly successful, moved into other businesses, and are still one of the richest familier in the US. As many people who lived in Delaware, I spent part of my career at DuPont and subsidiaries before I joined ServiceNow.
I was too mesmerized by the pre show of lightning bugs and the fireworks to remember to take any photos. Duh. I’ll do better with my next post.
I also got my car in for service at a Volvo dealer because I was due and I didn’t want to drive another 2000 miles on it before I got back to melt local dealer. On my way back, I drove by my old house in suburbia. The current owners are taking good care of it.
