As I prepared to leave Heraklion, my phone died. But no worries, it will charge up in a few moments when I start the car.
Um…no. Ok. No panicking. I got a Crete map when I was in Agios Nicholas a few days ago since the Michelin map did not arrive before I left. It has a blow up of Heraklion. Within the walled city. Ok, that’s no help. I’m outside the walled city.
It’s getting dark and it’s raining. I need to get going. Think. Can you remember how you got here from the freeway? Yes, I can. I hung a u-y and started back in the direction I came.
I found the entrance to the freeway without issue and I was on my way east. I only had one hiccup at Agios Nicholas where the sign did not reflect at night. But as soon as I went straight through a light, I realized I had to turn around and I knew to go round the traffic circle, because I had messed up there a few days ago.
Basknto the light and turning and I was on my way back to Myrsini. The only other tricky moment was a hairpin turn where I just missed sharing it with a truck with a double trailer. Yikes.
As I turned into Myrsini to park for the night, my phone was back to life. Old school saved the day.
